Memorial Day 2017

A very rainy and chilly Memorial Day this year.
Unfortunately we could not play our favorite games of running bases or hide and seek outside in the yard.
Instead, however, we managed with making up a silly game of volleyball with a solo cup in the family room.
The "net" was pillows lined up across the floor and the "ball" was the solo cup.
The solo cup was actually pretty aerodynamic.
I played with Jack for two games and we killed it both times!
I love how my family was just able to make up a silly game and have so much fun playing it.
I don't remember having that much fun playing a silly game in a long time.
It felt good to be a kid again.

It was a very nice family party but that reminds me of all the men and women that allowed my family and I to have such a nice time being together.
It is the soldiers and first responders that fight bravely to keep us safe and to allow us to have nice family gatherings.
As we were all together on Memorial Day, there were many that couldn't be with their families on this day because they are fighting to protect us from harm's way.
It is easy to remember soldiers and veterans on days like Veteran's Day and Memorial Day but it is every other day in between that we have to remember them.
My dad is a veteran and gave up years of his life to serve. Although he jokes around about it now, it was and still is a big deal.
He served so families everywhere could be together on holidays like yesterday.
So I thank him and I should really appreciate his service as well as every other soldier's service every day, not just on special occasions.

Yesterday, we sat down at the dining room table and listened to a video of one of our state senators give a speech at the New York State Senate about renaming one of the roads in my town after an Army Ranger from my town that died serving our country. He passed away 10 years ago and I remember when it happened because he lived directly across the street from me. Since he passed there is not a day that goes by that the gold star isn't on the door or the American flag isn't up at his house across the street. And there isn't a year that goes by that my town doesn't remember or honor him and his family.
His family is selling their house actually and even if they are moving, I still hope we continue to remember him, his family and all the other soldiers that have lost their lives regardless if we knew them personally or not.

And look how cute and preppy my family is!
(Ava and I both rocked our white Jack Rogers!)
On my hip is the littlest family member, my niece/Goddaughter Zoe, Michael is next to me, Jack is in the middle, Peter is on the end and then Ava and Lucas are down in front.
Too bad Ava and Lucas blocked Peter's shorts and socks, but they were very patriotic to say the least!

Toku and Tinder

Reunited yet again!
And now I have officially seen all of my best friends from high school!
The last time I saw Sophia (aka Soap, Bubbles or Soap'n Bubbles) was in January when she flew down to North Carolina and visited me at Wake!
Click HERE to see that blog post!
So we had a LOT to catch up on!
We caught up over our fav- SUSHI, I haven't had sushi since I have been home because I was waiting to break my sushi hiatus with Soap.
We split some edamame and then had some spicy tuna, eel and salmon rolls at Toku.

And the fun wasn't over because we then went to her house and met her NEW PUPPY!!!
He is an 8 week old German Shepard and he is adorable.
He had this one really floppy ear! Ah to die for!
I then caught up with her mom for a bit as well and then we made it up stairs to play around with Tinder....
I don't want to brag or anything but if I was single I would probably be pretty fun to chat to on Tinder....
Just saying.
It's very funny how the roles have reversed.
I was always going to Sophia for boy advice since I've known her, so since we were like 11 and now I think she should honestly go to me for boy assistance... or my boyfriend, who we bothered like 3x over FaceTime! (Oops! Sorry!)

We shared lots of laughs and I can't wait to have sushi again when we both get back from traveling! ;)

Ah and I know, it's the same spot I JUST TOOK BLOG PICS IN!
I'm sorry!!
But it's just where we were!
I apologize, I know it's a bit boring to look at the same background again, but my outfit is different!
So that's a plus!
Peter thinks I was a bit overdressed for Toku (and he's never been to Toku... sooo) but Soap and I disagree.
I think it was a very appropriate outfit for a very trendy dinner place.
Toku is definitely a restaurant you go to in a very trendy outfit for people to see you!
The sushi is good but not the best.
Don't worry, Soap and I will visit our fav sushi place when we both get back!
And Bubbles made my life SOO easy, (in regards to the blog) because her whole outfit is from ZARA!
Thanks Bubbles!
She convinced me to wear the heels with this outfit!
Normally, I would just settle for my Jack Rogers or some kind of flat.
And trust me, I embrace my height!
I love it and I love wearing heels.
But Toku is a restaurant where you normally see a lot of people you know from town so I would normally just keep it a little safe with my shoe choice.
But Sophia convinced me to break out my 4 inch sexy shoes for dinner!
Not the most comfortable shoe, but cheap and very sexy!
I wore them to my sorority formal! Click HERE to see those photos!

Overdressed and Unaccomplished

I got all dressed up yesterday, with a full face of makeup to go to the post office.
Yep, that was the only thing I did yesterday.
(Besides drag my mom to the Americana to take my photo).
So I guess you can say I was slightly overdressed for my very menial task and slightly unaccomplished.
I mean I have a big laundry list of things to do, but just silly little things.
Like watch the new episode of Pretty Little Liars, vacuum, read, go to Tory Burch...
Like that is my list.
Silly.

So I guess you can say I am slightly bored.
I told my boyfriend how bored I was so he called me last night to entertain me and we brainstormed a list of all the fun things I can do on Long Island with Michelle for the next month before we start work!
We are going to:
Go to the beach, go on a hike, go to Old Westbury Gardens, go to the Long Island Aquarium, go to the Fire Island Lighthouse, go to a Mets Game and eat at some various restaurants.
(Not that I need to spend any more money on dining out, because within the last month I have eaten out at wayyyyy too many restaurants and spent wayyyyy too much money...)
Those are just some ideas to satisfy my boredom because I have been home for almost a full month now, and Netflix and Youtube videos just aren't keeping me entertained.

I would like to say that I was the best dressed person at the post office yesterday...

14 Years Later...

Today I had lunch with two girls I have known since kindergarten.
We have grown apart over the years with silly little girl drama and then middle school and high school drama.
But we ended things on a high note last year before we graduated. We even took a picture and bragged about knowing each other our whole lives on Instagram.

Click HERE to see more photos from last year's lunch on the lawn.

It was really nice to just catch up and chat about life in college and how different it is from our small little home town.

I sported my new adorable shirt today!
It's a J Crew collectors tee.
I love how it is a classic stripped tee but it is has a floral design going down the sides of the shirt.
I think it's really pretty! And look how pretty the pink flowers are behind me!
I love pink in all aspects of my life obviously; pink flowers, pink bag, pink Hermès bracelet, pink underwear!? Maybe....
I am very excited to pair this shirt with my hot pink J Crew shorts, or my blue J Crew tassel earrings, or some new J Crew gold dangly earrings I recently bought.

Shoes: Tory Burch nude Sedgwick ballet flats
Bag: Tory Burch light pink tote bag (stole from my mom) (similar)
Watch: Michael Kors gold Blair watch

The Nina Variations

Who needs daylight when you have big bright lights in NYC?
I know these photos from Friday night aren't the best, but I just had to show you guys this outfit!

I think it is very sophisticated and very on trend.
I think this outfit is kind of the perfect example of me growing up.
I know that sounds silly, but I have always said, what you wear says a lot about you.
And I think this outfit says that I am young, confident and mature.
I would never ever have the guts to wear this outfit when I was in high school.
But now that I am done with my first year of college, I no longer care about what people think of what I wear, and I am the most confident I have ever been in my entire life.
And I hope you guys can see that just through my photos.

I didn't get a chance to take photos earlier in the day because my mom and I were running late to the theater.
I took the train in and met my mom at FIT, The Fashion Institute of Technology, her alma mater, on 7th avenue, and then we went to dinner and rushed off to the theater.
I walked from Penn Station to meet my mom and I got a lot of looks from a lot of men and women.
I couldn't tell if they were all admiring or maybe envying my "smart little scarf" or maybe just my outfit in general.
No cat calls this time.
Probably because I was walking quickly, keeping my eyes in front of me, "Long Island stink face" on, and goal in mind.

After dinner, we went to a little black box theater, off 7th street to see my cousin, Jasmine and her boyfriend perform in the Nina Variations.
It is a show about Chekhov's The Seagull and all the various endings that could have happened.
My cousin and her boyfriend were amazing! And I'm not just saying that because she is my cousin, but because she is so talented. You could really feel her emotions and that everything she was saying was coming from the heart. As my high school theater teacher would say, it was "honest" acting.
I could feel her aces and pains.
I've learned, that to be a good actor, you don't act at all.
Rather, you take all the emotions and words of the character and make them your own through your own life experiences.
Whenever I did a monologue, it was so hard for me to be "honest." Being "honest" makes your body hurt inside. Literally.
I know it sounds weird and it's hard to explain. But, it's a weirdly amazing feeling.

If you want to see her show, click HERE for tickets!

I met her boyfriend after the show and he told me, that like my cousin, he also went to college in Winston-Salem, at the School of the Arts, where he later asked if all the boys were treating me well down at Wake.
I congratulated him on a wonderful performance and that I really could appreciate their theater production because I had done theater my whole life and I know how hard it is to be an "honest" actor.

I will be seeing many more theater productions in the next couple of weeks because I have some very special guests coming to visit me in the big apple!!
Get excited!!

Becco and Cat Calling

Reunited and it feels so good!
Back with my babes and I couldn’t be happier!

Georgia, Michelle and I went out for our annual end of the school year celebration in NYC.
And it wouldn’t be tradition unless Michelle almost made us miss the train, AGAIN!

This year was the earliest we have ever done it, because we normally don’t finish school until the end of June. But colleges get out in May…
We went to one of our favorite restaurants- Becco in the theater district and ate WAYYYYY too much pizza and bread.
I was justifying it, however, because I was doing soul cycle at 8:30 am the next day with my sister…

I like to think that I follow after my dad and try to be a comedian….
The waiter at dinner asked us if we would like drinks, we declined and just opted for water because we are underage. So I made the joke, oh did you really think we were older? And the waiter got so defense and answered so aggressively, and said well I would have had to check ID’s anyway darling…. I was just trying to make a joke… So that was awkward. But it was fine. And I think he felt bad about his response because after that he was joking around with us and he gave us free desert.
And I think he even put a heart on the reciept… that is still to be determined however.

The food baby was real last night. And men on the street certainly didn’t seem to mind my food baby or Giorgia’s…
We walked to Becco and while on the way, we started to keep track of all the cat calls… Unfortunately, we lost track….. That’s how many there were…It’s disgusting.
Men are gross. Not all men, but the ones on the city streets are.
There was also a lot of commotion in the city last night because a man had lost control of his car in Times Square and it went up onto a cement barricade…
So Times Square was shut down and there was a lot of commotion.
After the slightly crazy night, I was glad to go home to Long Island, aka the bubble.

It was so nice to be reunited with my baby geese. I love them so much. And it just shows you how great friends they are, because after 4 months of not seeing them or talking too much, we were able to pick up right where we left off and act like the annoying best friends that we have always been. <3
